Dive into the gooey universe of slime and unlock creativity and discovery!
Slime is making a big resurgence with kids. Our 11 year old absolutely loves the stuff! She loves it so much that we have to keep stuff on hand for her to make it and she has even started her own slime business with her friend! This was the inspiration for our new Slime Night for Kids’ Night In. At our Slime Night, kids will be able to explore different ways to make slime as well as some educational concepts as they design their own business.

We asked our daughter to help us with this post all about slime since she is our resident expert. Below is the “recipe” she shared with us. She is clearly enough of an expert at this point that she does not need to add measurements 🙂
If you are like me and prefer some more precise measurements, below are some great recipes you can use to make at home. Although I am typically a fan of just using things around the house when it comes to activities with my kids, slime making does require you to have borax on hand.
Ingredients to Have on Hand
Here are some basic slime ingredients to have on hand. Doing so will ensure you are always prepared to make this gooey substance when the mood strikes, or when your kids are asking to.
- Glue – most recipes call for white Elmer’s glue, although the clear slime recipe below requires clear glue
- An “activator,” which could include:
- Borax
- Contact lens solution if you don’t want to use borax (note that your contact solution must include sodium borate and boric acid)
- Liquid Starch
- Baking Soda
- Something to color it with: liquid watercolor, food coloring, or acrylic paint

Fluffy Slime
Our daughter absolutely loves this stuff!. It’s just like regular slime, but has some shaving cream added to it to make it fluffy. Here is a great recipe that adds amounts, unlike our daughter’s recipe above.
